Today in class we talked about how to make out students feel loved/seen/appreciated. I think its really important to make sure you have a check in with each individual student to show them that you really care for their well-being. Some students do not get the individualized attention they need at home so your classroom can be a space for them to be seen and heard. I really like the idea of having a journal for students to write their thoughts/feelings in and if they would like the teacher to read it and respond, they can fold the corner of the page or something like that. Another way to show student appreciation is to display any work that they’ve done. This allows to students to feel proud of their work and shows them that you as the teacher are also proud of their work. Overall I think that making students feel loved/seen/appreciated is one of the most important things you can do to build relationships and in turn, create a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
